Sharon Robbins, the director of the Healing Touch Professional Association, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 17, 2014 at the Healing Touch Worldwide Conference in Chicago. She was an enthusiastic promoter of Healing Touch, kind & empathetic friend to our entire community of healers – always with a smile to share, and encouragement to those on the pathway to becoming HT practitioners and instructors. I miss her physical presence, but her healing energy will live on in us all.
NATIONAL ACCREDITATION FOR HEALING TOUCH PROGRAM
On January 15, 2014, Healing Touch Program’s practitioner certification process gained national accreditation by NCCA (the National Commission of Credentialing Agencies). With the educational program having already been nationally accredited by ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center), HTP now is the ONLY energy medicine program in the United States to be accredited by 2 highly respected national accrediting agencies. These accreditations are only granted to training programs which meet high standards regarding quality of their curriculum, follow a clearly defined Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice, and have standardized requirements for reaching certification status. Kudos to Lisa Mentgen-Gordon and Cynthia Hutchison, as well as the staff of HTP and all the HT Certified Instructors and Practitioners who worked to meet the stringent requirements for accreditation!
January 15, 2013 marked the passing of a truly inspiring woman – Dr. Dorothea Hover-Kramer. She was one of the ‘founding mothers” of the Healing Touch Program, co-founder of the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology, former president of the American Holistic Nursing Association, author of 9 books on energy medicine, an accomplished painter and concert-level classical pianist. More important to me, though, she was a dear friend who brought me into Healing Touch and inspired me to complete this amazing journey.
We met 4 years earlier in a spiritual women’s group where our friendship grew. In early 2011, she asked me to read and write a review of the draft of a new book she had written “Healing Touch: Essential Energy Medicine for Yourself and Others”. Despite my protests that I am not nationally known like her other reviewers, Dorothea persisted in the request with a knowing grin on her face. Reading her book became a life-changing event, as it opened my mind to the idea of pursuing an education in Healing Touch as a second career. As a result I signed up for Level 1 Healing Touch, and have never looked back or had any regrets. The process of transforming from a family physician to Healing Touch Certified Practitioner/Instructor has been akin to taking a joyous quantum leap into the light. Dorothea has been there to encourage me all through this process, and I still feel her presence infusing this work.
